Capitol City Lodge No.141 is a local lodge of the Fraternal
Order of Police, a national law enforcement organization representing
over 310,000 members. Lodge 141 provides a Labor Program
and a Fraternal Program serving members in the mid-Michigan
area consisting of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties.
The Labor Program
is a union representing approximately 700 people employed
in the positions of police officer, correction officer, 911
dispatcher, parking enforcement and related police support
work. The Labor Program consists of an elected Board of Directors
to manage regular business and elected representatives from
each of the units represented. Additionally, the Labor Program
is staffed full-time by an Executive Director, Office Manager
and an attorney on retainer. The Board of Directors,
along with the Executive Director, meet the third Wednesday
of each month. The meetings are open to all members.
The Fraternal Program membership includes
members of the Labor Program, retirees and associates (citizens
of the community who support the men and women working in
law enforcement). The Fraternal Program is managed by an elected
Board of Directors with administrative support provided by
the Labor Program Office Manager. Under the Michigan FOP constitution,
the membership size of Lodge 141 allows the Lodge to be designated
as its own District (District 10). This entitles Lodge 141
to a District Director who sits on the Michigan FOP Board
of Directors.
Quarterly business meetings (usually the first Tuesday
of March, June, September and December) provide a friendly
social atmosphere to network with people from other agencies
while keeping members informed of pending business. Additionally,
the Fraternal Program hosts and/or sponsors special events
throughout the year---barbecues, golf outings, etc.. The national
FOP has program benefits and a gift catalog available to all
members for ordering FOP insignia items.
